Core Dental Group dental technology - CEREC, digital scanning and advanced equipment
Technology has genuinely changed what's possible in a dental chair. Treatments that used to stretch across multiple appointments, with temporary crowns and weeks of waiting, can now be done in a single visit. Imaging that once meant conventional X-rays now produces detailed three-dimensional pictures at a fraction of the radiation dose. And patients who used to commit to cosmetic treatment without knowing exactly what they'd get can now see a realistic preview before anything starts.
At Core Dental Group, the technology we invest in is chosen because it makes a real difference, whether that's to how comfortable a procedure feels, how accurate the result is, or how much of your day it takes up. That applies across all seven of our Melbourne locations.
CEREC same-day crowns
CEREC, which stands for Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics, is one of the more significant practical advances in modern dentistry. It lets us design, mill, and fit a ceramic crown in a single appointment, cutting out the traditional sequence of impressions, a temporary crown, a laboratory wait, and a second visit weeks later.
The process works like this:
- We take a precise digital scan of your tooth - no impression material required
- Your dentist designs the crown on-screen, adjusting the shape, size, and bite in real time
- The crown is milled on-site from a solid ceramic block, which typically takes around 15 minutes
- The crown is fitted, adjusted, and polished before you leave
The result is a strong, natural-looking ceramic crown, done in the time most people spend commuting.
CEREC is available at:
- South Melbourne - 324 Clarendon St, South Melbourne | (03) 9114 7700
- Caroline Springs - 224-226 Caroline Springs Blvd | (03) 9363 7888
- Epping - Tenancy 3B/230 Cooper St | (03) 9401 4622
CBCT 3D imaging
Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) produces detailed three-dimensional images of teeth, bone, soft tissue, nerve pathways, and surrounding structures. Conventional two-dimensional X-rays can't show what CBCT shows, which matters most when the clinical decision depends on spatial relationships that a flat image can't capture.
CBCT is particularly useful for:
- Dental implant planning, where bone volume, density, and the exact positions of nerves and sinuses all need to be assessed
- Complex root canal treatment, where root anatomy in three dimensions can be critical
- Orthodontic assessment of jaw relationships, tooth positions, and skeletal structure
- Diagnosing conditions that don't show up on standard radiographs
- Surgical planning for complex extractions and bone grafting
The imaging uses a controlled, clinically appropriate radiation dose while producing substantially more diagnostic information than conventional X-rays.
CBCT 3D imaging is available at:

iTero intraoral scanners and digital scanning
All seven Core Dental Group locations have replaced traditional dental impressions with digital intraoral scanning. A small wand-shaped scanner captures a precise three-dimensional model of your teeth and bite in minutes. No trays, no impression material, no gagging.
Digital scans are used for:
- Invisalign treatment planning - iTero scanners connect directly with Invisalign's ClinCheck software, so you can see your projected tooth movement before committing to treatment
- Crown and bridge fabrication, providing precise digital models for both CEREC and laboratory-based restorations
- Monitoring changes in tooth wear, gum recession, and bite over time
- Making sports mouthguards, whitening trays, and sleep apnoea devices
Every Core Dental Group location has this technology. The days of goopy impressions are done.
Digital smile design and smile preview
At our Caroline Springs location, we offer digital smile design, which lets you see a realistic preview of cosmetic treatment outcomes before any work begins.
Using photographs and digital imaging software, your dentist can show you how your smile could look after veneers, whitening, contouring, or a combination of treatments. You can review the proposed changes, give feedback, and refine the design before any clinical decisions are locked in. For patients considering veneers or a more significant cosmetic change, being able to see and respond to the proposed result before committing is genuinely useful.

Zoom teeth whitening
Zoom professional whitening is one of the most consistently popular cosmetic treatments we offer. In a single appointment, the hydrogen peroxide gel, activated by a specially designed light, can lighten teeth by several shades. We also offer custom take-home whitening kits for patients who prefer to work at their own pace.
Zoom whitening is available across most Core Dental Group locations.
Digital radiography
All Core Dental Group locations use digital X-rays rather than conventional film. The practical differences are meaningful: images appear instantly, radiation exposure is significantly lower than with film-based X-rays, images can be enhanced and shared electronically, and there's no chemical processing involved. Digital X-rays are part of every routine check-up and examination across the network.
Intraoral cameras
Intraoral cameras are small, pen-sized devices that let your dentist show you exactly what they're looking at, in real time, on a screen beside the chair. Cracks, decay, gum changes, wear patterns - things that were previously invisible to patients become easy to see and understand. These cameras are available at all Core Dental Group locations and are one of the more straightforward ways to make sure patients and dentists are genuinely on the same page.
Laser dentistry
Laser dentistry uses precisely targeted light energy to treat soft tissue conditions with minimal bleeding, less post-operative discomfort, and faster healing than conventional surgical approaches. It's available for gum contouring, treating gum disease, and a range of other soft tissue procedures.
Laser dentistry is available at:

Investing in what matters
We're not interested in technology for its own sake. Every piece of equipment we invest in is there because it improves outcomes, reduces discomfort, saves time, or helps our clinicians make better decisions. That's the standard we apply.
