Tooth Fairy Centre at Core Dental Group — Specialist Paediatric Dental Care for Children

A child's first dentist visit can set the tone for how they feel about oral health for the rest of their life. It's a bigger deal than it might seem. At Core Dental Group, we don't take that lightly — which is why we created the Tooth Fairy Centre, a specialist paediatric dental brand built around what children actually need: patience, expertise, and an environment that doesn't feel scary.

The Tooth Fairy Centre runs across seven Core Dental Group locations throughout Melbourne. To book or find out more, call (03) 7036 5555 or visit toothfairy.com.au.

What is the Tooth Fairy Centre?

The Tooth Fairy Centre is Core Dental Group's dedicated children's dental brand. Rather than sending families to the CBD or a public hospital waiting list, it brings specialist-level paediatric dentistry into suburban practices that are actually convenient to get to.

Our specialist paediatric dentists hold postgraduate qualifications in paediatric dentistry and are registered with AHPRA. They work alongside our general dentists, hygienists, and practice teams to make sure every child's visit feels genuinely child-centred, not just child-tolerant.

Our specialist paediatric dentists

Dr Angel Babu — Caroline Springs and Carrum Downs

Dr Angel Babu holds a DClinDent in Paediatric Dentistry from the University of Otago, New Zealand, and previously worked as a Senior Dental Registrar at the Royal Children's Hospital Melbourne. Her clinical interests include behaviour management, dental trauma, hypomineralisation (chalky teeth), children with high caries risk, and children with complex medical or special needs. She provides general anaesthesia, oral sedation, and nitrous oxide for children who need additional support.

Dr Sarah Scott — Berwick

Dr Sarah Scott holds a BBiomedSci (Hons), BDent from the University of Sydney, and a DClinDent in Paediatric Dentistry from the University of Melbourne. She spent over 15 years working as a general dentist before completing her specialist training — experience that gives her a grounded, practical approach to children's care. She's focused on building positive dental experiences that actually stick.

Dr Aish Kesava (Dr Aiswariya Kesava) — Epping

Dr Aish Kesava completed her DCD in Paediatric Dentistry at the University of Otago, New Zealand, having trained initially in India before specialising in New Zealand. She has a particular interest in children who experience dental anxiety, and her approach means that even the most nervous young patients tend to leave feeling okay about coming back.

Services at the Tooth Fairy Centre

First dental visits

We recommend a child's first dental visit by age two, or within six months of their first tooth appearing — whichever comes first. These early visits aren't really about treatment. They're about getting your child comfortable with the environment, meeting the team, and sitting in the chair without it being a big event. Our paediatric dentists are good at making this feel normal, even fun.

Fissure sealants

The deep grooves on the biting surfaces of back teeth collect food and bacteria in ways that brushing can't always reach. Fissure sealants fill those grooves with a thin protective coating — it's painless, quick, and cuts the risk of decay in those areas significantly. We recommend them for most children once their permanent molars come through.

Managing dental anxiety

Dental anxiety is common in children, and it tends to stick around into adulthood when it's not handled well early on. Our Tooth Fairy Centre practitioners are trained in behaviour management techniques designed to help anxious children feel calm and in control. We use age-appropriate language, a tell-show-do approach, and a pace that doesn't rush or overwhelm.

For children who need more support, nitrous oxide (laughing gas) is available — it's safe, effective, and wears off quickly. For more complex cases or children with special needs, IV sedation and general anaesthesia are also available at selected locations.

General anaesthesia and sedation

Some children are best treated under general anaesthesia or sedation — whether because of significant anxiety, complex treatment needs, or specific medical requirements. Our specialist paediatric dentists are qualified to provide these services, so necessary treatment can be completed safely and without distress.

General anaesthesia is available at Caroline Springs and Carrum Downs through Dr Angel Babu.

Early intervention orthodontics

Jaw and bite development is worth monitoring from an early age. Our paediatric specialists work closely with our specialist orthodontists to spot issues — crossbites, overcrowding, skeletal discrepancies — that respond well to early treatment. Catching these things early can simplify, or sometimes avoid entirely, more involved orthodontic work during the teenage years.

Myofunctional therapy

Myofunctional therapy addresses muscle habits — mouth breathing, tongue thrusting, incorrect swallowing — that can affect facial development, sleep, and dental alignment over time. Our paediatric dentists can identify these patterns early and either treat or refer appropriately.

Child Dental Benefits Schedule — bulk billing

The Child Dental Benefits Schedule (CDBS) is a federal government program providing up to $1,095.60 in dental benefits over two calendar years for eligible children aged 2 to 17. The Tooth Fairy Centre bulk bills eligible children under the CDBS at all Core Dental Group locations, meaning many essential treatments cost families nothing out of pocket.

To check your child's eligibility, contact your local Core Dental Group practice or call (03) 7036 5555.

The Tooth Fairy Centre experience

The clinical care matters, but so does the room it happens in. Our practices are designed to feel welcoming rather than clinical — because a child who walks in already tense is harder to help. We work closely with parents and guardians throughout every visit, so families leave informed and confident rather than just relieved it's over.

We also offer back-to-back family appointments at several locations, and our hours — Monday to Friday until 6pm, plus Saturday mornings — are designed to work around school and work schedules rather than against them.
