Core Dental Group Sleep Dentistry and Sedation at Core Dental Epping

Dental anxiety is more common than most people realise. At Core Dental Group, we think fear shouldn't stop anyone from getting the dental care they need. Our sedation options make it possible for even the most nervous patients to get through treatment comfortably and safely.

You don't have to fear the dentist

At Core Dental Group's Epping practice, we've helped many anxious patients get the treatment they need without the dread that usually comes with it. The practice is at Tenancy 3B/230 Cooper St, Epping VIC 3076, about a 10-minute walk from Epping Station, and we're set up to handle dental anxiety at every level.

Sedation options at Epping

Nitrous oxide (happy gas)

Nitrous oxide, commonly known as happy gas or laughing gas, is a mild sedation option that helps you relax while staying fully conscious. You breathe it through a small nose mask, feel calm within minutes, and the effects clear quickly once the mask comes off. It's suitable for patients of all ages, including children.

What to expect with nitrous oxide:

  • Fast-acting and easily reversed
  • You stay awake and can communicate throughout
  • No recovery time needed, so you can drive yourself home afterwards
  • Safe for both children and adults

Sleep dentistry (IV sedation)

For patients with severe dental anxiety, multiple complex procedures to get through, or a strong gag reflex, IV sedation is worth considering. You enter a deeply relaxed twilight state and most patients have little or no memory of the appointment. A specialist anaesthetist, registered nurse, experienced dentist and dental assistant are all present throughout the procedure.

IV sedation is particularly suited to patients with:

  • High dental anxiety or dental phobia
  • Extensive or multiple procedures needed in one visit
  • A strong gag reflex
  • Needle phobia
  • Limited jaw opening

Laser dentistry: another reason to relax

Core Dental Epping is the only Core Dental practice offering laser dentistry. For a lot of patients, the sound and feel of a traditional drill is a big part of what makes dentistry stressful. Laser dentistry can reduce or eliminate drilling in many procedures, making treatment quieter, more comfortable and often faster.

Laser dentistry at Epping is used for:

  • Gum recontouring and reshaping
  • Soft tissue procedures
  • Cavity treatment in selected cases
  • Gum procedures where reduced bleeding matters

Frequently asked questions

Am I a suitable candidate for sleep dentistry? IV sedation suits most adults with significant dental anxiety, multiple complex treatments needed in one session, needle phobia, a strong gag reflex, or difficulty sitting for long periods. A pre-treatment medical assessment determines suitability. Call us to talk through your situation.

Will I be unconscious during sleep dentistry? IV sedation puts you in a deeply relaxed twilight state, and most patients have little or no memory of the procedure. It's not full general anaesthesia, so you remain able to respond to instructions, but you'll be entirely comfortable throughout.

How soon can I return to normal activity after sedation? You'll need a responsible adult to drive you home and should rest for the remainder of the day. Avoid driving, operating machinery or making important decisions for at least 24 hours. Most patients feel back to normal by the following day.

Does health insurance cover sleep dentistry? Coverage varies by fund and policy. The dental treatment itself is typically claimable under your dental cover, and some sedation fees may also be claimable depending on your level of cover. Check with your fund or speak to our team for guidance.
